Bonneval has firmed as favourite for this month’s Caulfield Cup, after taking out the Hyland Race Colours Underwood Stakes.
Despite Hartnell being favourite, Bonneval showed her worth, storming past the more fancied Hartnell to win her third career Group 1 race.
She now assumes favouritism, ahead of Hurridor, Almandin, Harlem and Hartnell for the Caulfield Cup.
Meanwhile, the news is not so good for international raider, Francis of Assisi, after suffering an injury during the flight to Melbourne for the Caulfield Cup.
Francis of Assisi was expected to be tough to beat in the Cup, after impressing with wins at the Queen Elizabeth Stakes and Bendigo Cup last spring.
However, he has been restricted to walking after suffering a knock to his nearside foreleg during the flight.
But the overseas horse’s trainers are confident he will be fit come race day.
Returning from injury, Francis of Assisi is ranked as an outsider for Caulfield Cup - see the latest horse racing betting odds at CrownBet.
The Caulfield Cup is the second major race on the Spring Carnival calendar, following the Caulfield Guineas Day on Saturday, October 14.
Other major race days this year are Victoria Derby Day on November 4, the Melbourne Cup on November 7 and Oaks Day on November 9.
